I've always had a passion for flatware. When I was ten I used my pocket money to buy a single place setting from a local outlet store. I had to search through huge bins full of random forks, knives and spoons to find a matching set of my favourite pattern. Last month as part of their birthday celebrations, Emma Bridgewater ran a bit of a photo competition. As Bridgewater fans we couldn't resist the chance to win one of their limited edition Silver Baby Mugs. So dressed up in my very best dress and carrying my Black Toast Gavy Boat we wandered down to our local park for a photo. Unfortunately we didn't win (especially after attracting the embarrassing attention of the local children in the park), but we did receive a £10 voucher for Emma Bridgewater. Jan Kaplicky was born in Prague in 1937 and when designing a new set of airline cutlery he was inspired by the legendary Czechoslovakian fighter planes. I love the modern take on vintage style in the M&S Posy Gingham Tableware. The pretty pink tableware is liberally sprinkled with plump blooms and accented with a light raspberry gingham. In places the white stoneware is revealed, giving it contemporary precision and breaking up the pink before it becomes overwhelming. The only flaw I can see is that I doubt I can convince Dan to eat off these pretty plates. Despite the prevalence of posh pizza restaurants, there is something disconcerting about eating pizza with a knife and fork. For a food most often served out of a box, it feels ridiculous to cut it up into bite sized pieces. However Guzzini have created a special set of cutlery for just such an occasion. I'll admit I'm passionate about my flatware, I've always had favourite forks and knives, even as a child. To go with our relaxed tableware style, we chose the classic and elegant Stanton Cutlery. I'll admit we cheated slightly . As we had guests coming over from the States, we were able to import two items on our Wedding List. When I lived overseas I really came to love Corelle Dinnerware, it's a perfect everyday china. Made of durable Vitrelle glass, Corelle dishes are light, strong and chip resistant.
